Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation (BIDCorp) met in regular session Monday, April 17th. With no public comment, the board approved minutes from the March 20th Board Meeting before a review of financial and sales tax reports. On the agenda were presentations from Main Attraction Beauty Shop, Next Door Rentals and Chuck’s Automotive.
First on the agenda was Main Attraction Beauty Shop where Mary Armenta presented a $32,297 estimate to the board for plans to completely replace their “at least 22 years old” roof and repair damages to the interior of the shop. All her vendors were local.

Board members then reviewed a presentation for an ongoing addition as well as some minor renovations to the exterior of the current building brought forth by Next Door Rentals. The current addition is at the midpoint with concrete and building shell in place with hopes to be completed in the next four to six weeks with a projected cost of $102,000.
Next Door Rentals has taken on what was formerly Barton’s Welding Supply, and is the process of becoming a lawn mower and yard tool repair and sales location as well. The majority of the vendors being used by Next Door Rentals are local. He also plans to add additional employees.
Chuck Nave was last to be heard with a presentation for renovation to the east and west side of Chucks Automotive. Also in this presentation was a plan to integrate windows and doors he purchased from BISD and completely update the storefront. All vendors to be used in this renovation are local.
After a closed Executive Session, BIDCorp approved $37,850 for this project, as well as $32,297 towards Main Attraction Beauty Shop. Next Door Rentals proposal of $102,000 is pending and will be sent to City Council for approval. All grants over $50,000 must be approved by City Council.
Sales tax is up for the year, and is the sole funding for projects undertaken by BIDCorp. No property tax dollars are ever used for any project funded by BIDCorp.
Executive Director Gina Kelly stated, “The board was glad to be able to help these businesses who are pouring right back into our economy and looking for more local help. We feel this is money well spent to continue to keep Brownfield humming. We really appreciate seeing how much money is being spent locally by these businesses.”
