A call came out just before noon on Thursday of a pickup submerged in Gillham Pond in Brownfield, otherwise known as the Duck Pond. Two ladies were reported to be trapped in the vehicle.
Quick responding officers rescued the ladies and their dog from the pond before any damage was done.
The two ladies were from Roswell and were on their way to Dallas.
The older lady, Gloria Perry who is the mother of the other lady, told TownTalk Media, “We just stopped to give Cissy, the dog, a potty break. I had gotten out of the pickup and Madi (her daughter) was still inside. She somehow hit the gear shift and the pickup began to roll into the water. The doors were locked and my daughter could not get them unlocked. I am trying frantically to get her to open the door as we all head into the water.”
All were safe and the vehicle was pulled up out of the water.
Everything they had with them was soaked. They were able to get some warm dry clothes and and shoes, and were taken to First Baptist Church to relax and wait for the husband to arrive from Roswell.
The lady reached out to TownTalk Media on Friday morning and said they were home safe. All they were missing was a Disney purse that belonged to the daughter, which probably fell out of the pickup in the pond when the rescue was taking place.
The pair were very grateful for the help of the Brownfield Police and Fire and Rescue.
Gloria sent this Thank You to all involved. “My heartfelt thanks goes out to the men and women of the Brownfield Police and Fire and Rescue, and to all the amazing people in Brownfield who helped me and my daughter and our dog on Thursday. I am more grateful than you will ever know. May God bless each of you.”
