Every two years the University Interscholastic League (UIL) realigns conferences and districts based on enrollment in each public high school.
The last Friday in October in odd years is when UIL gets those enrollment numbers. That day is called “Snapshot Day” because UIL looks at the enrollment from that day to decide where to place each school in conferences and districts.
Friday October 29, 2021 was Snapshot Day and according to Brownfield ISD Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Aarrhon Flores BISD turned in 446 students enrolled in the high school. This number is way below the 4A threshold from the last realignment which was 515, so the Cubs look to stay in Conference 3A

In the next few weeks there will be a lot rumors as to what UIL will do, and some will be correct and some will not. No school will actually know what district they’ll be in until it is released around 9:00 a.m. on the first Tuesday of February on even number years. The next realignment release will be Tuesday February 1, 2022.
Since December 2013, UIL has put out the conference and division cutoffs (division cutoffs are for 1A – 5A football only) in the first week of December in odd years. This is to help schools know what conference and football division they’ll be in. So in about a month schools will know what conference and divisions they’ll be in, however they will not know what districts they’ll be in.
In the 2020-2022 realignments, the top enrollment number for 3A was 514. This means any school with 515 or more would be in 4A. According to BISD Superintendent Chris Smith there is talk about how the enrollment across the state has decreased since 2020 due to COVID-19. With an enrollment decrease across the state, UIL could possibly lower the bottom enrollment number in each conference. As of right now there is speculation that the bottom number for 4A will be 500. Again this is speculation.

UIL has already put out their Conference and District Assignment Policies and Procedures for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 Realignments, and with that there is already some information that will help. Conference 1A will still be same with a top enrollment number of 104. Of course if a school is 104 and below, they can opt to play 11-man football in Conference 2A Div. II. In last realignment there were nine schools that opted to move up to 11-man football and there are 56 1A schools that do not play football.
Both Meadow and Wellman-Union will stay in 1A. Meadow turned in 86 and Wellman-Union turned in 69. Something else to note about Conference 1A, UIL has expanded the volleyball conferences. Beginning in the 2022 volleyball season, Conference 1A will no longer be placed with Conference 2A in district play and be split up into Conference 1A & 2A when post season begins.
