2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

The very prestigious 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition was completed on March 5. There were over forty-eight judges, representing various North American wine regions, evaluating nearly 5,700 wines from over 1,000 wineries.

Bob Fraser, SFCWC executive director, said, “The response from the wineries of North America at our 2021 competition was outstanding this year!”

  • Messina Hof Winery – 2019 Viognier – Texas High Plains
  • Messina Hof Winery – 2018 Tempranillo – Texas High Plains
  • Perissos Vineyards and Winery – 2019 Roussanne – Reserve One Way Vineyards – Texas High Plains
  • Texas Heritage Vineyard – 2018 Barbera – Texas High Plains
  • Wedding Oak Winery – 2018 Aglianinco – Hye Top Vineyards – Texas Hill Country

Bold indicates grapes grown in the High Plains Area

Several other area vineyards were well represented among the top placings in this competition. 133 of the 259 places awarded for Texas wines were from grapes grown in the High Plains. Twenty-six of those earned a Gold or Double Gold placing.

Terry County is the largest grape producing county in the High Plains area and continuing to make a name for the area among the elite grape growers and vineyards across the country.
