Graveside services for Odie LaVerne Newsom (88) will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Plains Cemetery under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Brownfield. Officiating will be Cameron Kirkland.
LaVerne Newsom died in Lubbock, Texas September 7, 2020. She was born July 4, 1932 to the late Otis Lafayette Lusk and Juanita Faye Hague Lusk in Plains, Texas. She married Doyle “Hoss” Newsom April 12, 1953 in Plains, Texas. She was a homemaker, owner of Newsom Vineyards, a member of the Museum Association, Grape Growers Association and the Cemetery Association. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Plains and she loved the library.
She was preceded in death by her husband, “Hoss”, three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her son Neal Newsom and his wife Janice, and her daughter Denise “Newsom” Johnson all of Plains, Texas. She is also survived by four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Family and friends will gather for visitation from 5 – 7 P.M., Thursday, September 10 at the First United Methodist Church.
