So, I had to drive to Haskell this week to pick up my grandson. It is always a nice drive and so much nicer than meeting in Abilene and having to be on the Interstate. I was just driving along and enjoying the greenery. They have had a lot more rain than us. A. Lot. More. I made it to just outside Jayton, where 380 turns. Only 380 didn’t turn. There was a road block and a big sign that said, “HWY 380 DETOUR.” This was unfortunate. And grew even more unfortunate.
I drove on into Jayton following the detour signs, only the signs went away and there was never a sign to turn to get back to 380. So I went back the other way. No sign to turn anywhere. I stopped in at the Kent County Courthouse to ask for directions. But the directions were confusing, at best and convoluted to say the least! The very nice man told me to go back out on the highway and go on back west toward Post “I don’t know. Maybe it’s about 24 miles. Then you will take 70 back toward Aspermont. You will see the Double Mountains. Then go on down 70. There will be a really high fence. I am not sure what that is for. They are also building turbines along this route so you will probably see lots of truck traffic. There may be road construction. There will be an old house on the right. Just keep going maybe 27 miles.”
Whew! Are you still with me? I am not sure I was ever with him on these directions. The best part of the directions was that he said, in his most apologetic voice, “I am sorry, but you will have to go through Fisher County. There is no other way, but you are only in Fisher for a little bit.” I was not sure what to expect when I entered Fisher County.
Anyway, the man finally pulled out a map and just showed me and I made my way to Haskell (through Fisher County without incident). But, it occurred to me as I thought about the nice man’s instructions, sometimes we just make things so much harder than it has to be. There is so much going on in our world today and we are confused by lots of it and at a loss how to handle things or even where to begin to fix some of it. None of this is how Jesus intended it.
Let’s just go back to the easy words of the Savior. “Love one another.” Pretty simple. Just love one another. We serve such a loving Father and all He wants to do is love us the best way He can and the best we have ever been loved, and He wants to see us love each other in that same way. I am going to use a scripture again that I used just a few weeks ago. “By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35
Let’s quit making things so hard. Let’s just love one another and let God work in our lives. He can make all the difference!
I am going to say it one more time for the people in the back, “People need to know you love them a whole lot more than they need to know where you fall on the political scale!” Love one another and let’s make a difference together!
