The Terry County Commissioners met for their regular meeting on Monday, February 10 and accepted bids for two new vehicles for the Terry County Sheriff’s Department. Sealed bids were opened by Terry County Sheriff Timothy Click. Three bids were received for each vehicle.

Gene Messer Ford had a bid of $26,319.80 for a 2019 Ford F-150 and a bid of $36,785.81 for a 2020 Passenger Van. Smith South Plains had a bid of $18,886 on a 2020 Ford F-150 and a bid of $25,191 for a 2020 Passenger Van. Stanley Ford offered a bid of $44,642.01 on a 2019 Ford F-150 and a bid of $45,547.34 on a 2019 Passenger Van. All bids included trade-ins. The Commissioners voted to accept the low bids of Smith South Plains. Money for these vehicles had been budgeted in this year’s budget. The Sheriff’s Department is trading in a 1995 F-150, a 2015 F-150 and a 2013 van.

The Commissioners heard from Terry County Justice of the Peace Angie Garza on changing data programs for the JP’s Office. “We have had a nightmare trying to work with LGS. We have been with them for two years and it is just not workable for us any longer,” stated Garza. She stated that her office had done considerable research and determined that Net Data Program would be the best one for her department. “This program is geared more toward the Justice Court and appears to be what we have needed.” She further stated that without the help of Russ McKee, who works in the JP Office, they would have been lost all along. “We just weren’t getting any help from LGS. Russ is a computer whiz and he helped us work through most of the problems.” The Netdata Program will cost $1,000 per month. LGS was $615 monthly. “There is no licensing fee with Netdata and we were having to pay a fee to license each computer with LGS,” stated Garza. “We have had so many problems and have lost revenue due to the problems with LGS.” It will cost the County $24,295 to transfer over initially. Commissioner Mike Swain made the motion to accept the JP’s recommendation, with Commissioner Ernie Elizardo seconding the motion. Garza feels like the system should be in place by June, if not earlier.

In other business, the Court read reports from the Sheriff, County Clerk, Justice of the Peace and Ag Extension Offices. The lease agreement with Brownfield Health and Human Services Department was renewed. The contract with Allied Compliance for drug testing was also renewed.

All Commissioners were present for the meeting. The Commissioners will next meet on Monday, February 24th at 10 a.m. in the Basement Meeting Room of the Terry County Courthouse.
