The Terry County Commissioners Court met in regular scheduled session today and approved some important items. After the call to order, invocation and pledge, the court went into full session.
Beginning with the items one and two, the Court approved the of examining and paying bills, and the past minutes. The Commissioners also approved the monthly reports from the Justice of Peace and Sheriffs Department. In the Sheriffs reports, it shows that the county jail is at 124 inmates, with fifty-nine being from Terry County. Sheriff Gilbreath said things are looking real good with the jail and the department.

The Court moved on to the approval of a new 4-H County Ag Extension Agent. Michael Clawson, the District Manager of Texas A&M Extension Service came to present his recommendation for this position. Clawson told the Court that there were six applicants that sought out this position. On Clawson’s recommendation, he presented Geoff Cooper to be the new Extension Agent. The Court unanimously approved of Cooper becoming the new agent. He will begin this position next Monday October 27th, 2017.
Another item of importance was the group insurance benefits. Charlie Waites of the Texas Association of Counties came to present the new cost of insurance for county employees. The current plan would have been raised from $617.26 to $669.74 per employee, and that would be a $52.48 increase. Waites also presented an option two. The cost of option two would be $599.30 monthly per employee with the deductible going up from $1500, to $2500 and there would be a $100 deductible for prescription drugs and pharmaceuticals. This option will give save the county $108,000.00 for the year. The Court approved this measure of accepting option number two.
