Behren Morton had four touchdown passes and another TD from a 10-yard run.
Texas Tech tied a school record by scoring 52 points in the first half of a 66-21 win over North Texas on Saturday when Behren Morton threw four touchdown passes and ran for a 10-yard score. They did as North Texas Head Coach Eric Morris came back home to Lubbock.
Bralyn Lux returned an interception for a 44-yard touchdown, and Coy Eakin had a 70-yard touchdown catch as the Red Raiders (2-1) scored seven touchdowns within a span of 13 minutes starting late in the first quarter.

The first-half surge came on the heels of the Red Raider’s opening season game overtime win against Abilene Christian, which is an FCS member, then Tech lost handily last week at Washington State. After giving up 506 yards passing to ACU, the Red Raiders intercepted Chandler Morris three times, including the throw after Lux’s pick-6 when the ball went through receiver Kyle Koch’s hands.
“That’s what we were looking for,” coach Joey McGuire said. “The guys responded to what we asked for all week. I thought the defense swarmed. Offensively, those guys did such a great job.”
The Mean Green (2-1) narrowed the score to 10-7 when Wyatt Young caught a screen pass and ran 75 yards for a touchdown. Tahj Brooks, who missed Texas Tech’s previous game due to injury, contributed 109 rushing yards and started a 42-0 scoring run with a 21-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-1.

Morton did not play in the second half. He finished 15 of 19 for 273 yards without throwing an interception. Morton had two picks which contributed to Texas Tech’s four turnovers in a 37-16 loss to the Washington State.
This was the 47th consecutive game Texas Tech won against an unranked opponent from a non-power conference. The streak began after a home loss to North Texas 21-14 in 1999.
