The old saying goes “recruiting never sleeps” and boy has that cliche been tested this cycle more than ever before, yet still proven true. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, in-person recruiting has been non-existent since mid-March.
The critical spring evaluation period, the summer camps and on-campus official visits, all of it, gone for this 2021 class. The NCAA imposed dead period is currently set to run through August and will likely be extended again.
All of these impediments have not stopped recruiting entirely, however. Coaches are still allowed to contact recruits electronically, by mail and by phone so that means social media tools such as Zoom and FaceTime have become all the more important as college football programs transition to virtual visits. Offers are still being doled out, recruits are still committing to schools and recruiting continues.
“We’re in a little bit of uncharted territory right now as a nation, as a university, really as a city and as families. We’re all kind of going through it together,” said Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells back in the spring when everything was shut down. “I believe we all have a responsibility, just as citizens, to do our part in trying to flatten off this curve and not allowing this virus to spread. I think we all have a social responsibility in that. I think we all need to take that seriously and I believe we have. We also can stick together in times like this. I think “Raider Power” is more than a chant, it’s more of a mindset that’s going to allow us to get through this all together. We don’t know really what the future holds.”
The Red Raiders are among those programs persevering, still recruiting as much as they can this summer amid the coronavirus. To that end, this piece is an effort to provide a one-stop shop list of Texas Tech offers this summer. We will continue to update the status of these recruits and of course add to the list as the Red Raiders extend offers to new recruits.
