Here is this weeks Terry County High School Basketball Roundup. All six squads are seeing some success.
Brownfield Lady Cubs (3-3, 7-18)
The Lady Cubs have concluded their first round of district action and currently hold the fourth-place position. Recently, they were defeated by the #24 ranked Coahoma Bulldogettes with a score of 61-39. The turning point came in the second quarter when they were outscored 23-8, and in the fourth quarter, they were outscored 17-11.
However, the Lady Cubs bounced back on Friday evening, securing a 44-31 victory against Crane, which improved their district record to 3-3 and their overall record to 7-18. #3 Lucy Guzman led the team with 17 points, and every player contributed by scoring at least one point.
As they move into the second round of district action, the Lady Cubs will host Stanton on Tuesday night, January 14. In their previous meeting on December 3, 2024, Stanton emerged victorious with a score of 61-46. Since that game, the Lady Cubs have become stronger and more consistent.
Throughout the first round of district play, the Lady Buffs averaged 52 points per game while allowing 37 points, whereas the Lady Cubs averaged 40 points per game and allowed 45 points. The Lady Cubs have a chance to surprise Stanton if they can maintain their performance throughout all four quarters and avoid allowing any significant scoring runs.
Since District 3-3A has seven teams, there will be a bye-game, so the Ladt Cubs will not have a game on Friday evening.

#5 Brownfield Runnin’ Cubs (5-0, 17-7)
The new weekly rankings have been released, and the Runnin’ Cubs have moved up from #13 to #5 in Class 3A. Brownfield had a great week last week, defeating Coahoma 76-53, with #12 Jeron Lawrence scoring 28 points. On Friday evening, they hosted Crane and won decisively, 87-38, hitting a total of 14 three-pointers. Lawrence was again the high scorer with 26 points, 18 of which came from beyond the arc. This victory extends the team’s winning streak to eight games, and they are currently two games ahead in first place.
Like the Lady Cubs, the Runnin’ Cubs will be hosting Stanton, which will conclude the first round of district play for Brownfield. Stanton is struggling with a record of 0-4 in district play and 5-10 overall. The Buffalos are averaging 39 points per game while allowing 50. In contrast, the Runnin’ Cubs are averaging around 66 points per game and allowing 55. Coach McPherson is likely to give the entire bench some playing time on Tuesday night.
The Runnin’ Cubs will also have Friday night off.
District 3-3A Boys Standings
| BOYS DIST. 3-3A | DISTRICT | OVERALL |
| #5 BROWNFIELD | 5-0 | 17-7 |
| LAMESA | 3-2 | 3-16 |
| COAHOMA | 2-2 | 9-10 |
| DENVER CITY | 2-2 | 15-6 |
| CRANE | 1-3 | 3-7 |
| ODSA COMPASS | 1-3 | 8-8 |
| STANTON | 0-4 | 5-10 |
Meadow Lady Broncos (2-1, 13-8)
The Lady Broncos started their district competition with a victory against their cross-county rival, Wellman-Union, winning 51-44. However, they faced a setback when they were defeated by Anton with a score of 47-40. The team bounced back impressively by defeating Cotton Center 52-17 on Friday night.
Next, they will face #14 Whitharral, a team that has been performing exceptionally well, averaging 68 points per game over the past four games. The Lady Broncos have a chance to upset Whitharral if they can keep them under 45 points. This means their defense will need to be strong and not allow any openings.
Wellman-Union Lady Cats (1-2, 11-10)
The Lady Cats secured their first district win on Friday night, narrowly defeating Anton 55-53. This victory has complicated the playoff seeding situation, as Meadow has beaten Wellman-Union, Anton has defeated Meadow, and Wellman-Union has won against Anton.
Looking ahead, the Lady Cats will head north on Tuesday night to face Amherst. The Lady Bulldogs are currently 0-3 in district play and have yet to win a game this season, averaging only 17 points per game while allowing 53. The Lady Cats simply need to show up and take care of business.
To conclude the week, Wellman-Union will host Cotton Center. The Lady Elks are coming off a tough loss to Meadow, but they do hold one district win…against Amherst. Similar to the Amherst game, the Lady Cats need to focus on their performance and aim to finish the first round of district play with a record of 3-2.

District 5-1A Girls Standings
| GIRLS DIST. 5-1A | DISTRICT W-L | OVERALL W-L |
| #14 WHITHARRAL | 3-0 | 13-7 |
| ANTON | 2-1 | 8-4 |

| COTTON CENTER | 1-2 | 3-16 |
| AMHERST | 0-3 | 0-15 |
Meadow Broncos (1-0, 9-12)
Fortunately, the Broncos are 1-0 in the district; however, the win came as a forfeit from Cotton Center. This means that by Tuesday night’s game against the #13 Whitharral Panthers, the Broncos will have gone a full week without a game. The Panthers are one of the best teams in Region I-1A, often scoring in the 70s, 80s, and even the 90s. They are a force to be reckoned with. Like the Lady Broncos, the Broncos will need to play a nearly perfect game to win. Additionally, if Meadow can keep the Panthers under 50 points, they will have a chance at victory.
Wellman-Union Wildcats (0-1, 7-12)
The Wildcats are coming off a heartbreaking loss to Anton, with a final score of 64-51 in their district opener. Now, they are focusing on their upcoming game against Amherst. The Bulldogs are currently 0-1 in the district and 4-8 overall, although there are at least eight games without available information. The Bulldogs are averaging 37 points per game while allowing 55. In contrast, the Wildcats are scoring an average of 47 points per game and allowing 54. The Wildcats are scheduled to host Cotton Center on Friday; however, the Elks may potentially forfeit that game as well.
