Terry County Commissioners meet, looking to do some remodeling

by Eric

The Terry County Commissioners Court met in a regularly scheduled meeting Monday morning June 26, 2023, and it was a quick one. After the call to order, invocation, and pledges the Court would begin to go through the agenda. There were no public comments and they moved on to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Next, the Court approved the paying of the bills.

Moving on to the next agenda item, the Court would take action on renewing the lease agreement between Terry County and South Plains Public Health District (SPPHD). Typically, the County issues a one-year lease, however, County Judge Tony Serbantez recommended a two-year lease. SPPHD does not pay for the facilities, however, it must be maintained by SPPHD. Also, SPPHD is responsible for paying the utilities. The Court approved the lease agreement for two years.

The next two items of business were to review and consider taking action on a proposal for professional service with Parkhill for the Terry County Courthouse. The proposal will include a “Statement of Qualification” and the next item dealing with Parkhill is an “architectural letter of agreement, (draft AIA B221-2018 accompanying with draft B221 exhibit A basic services). Judge Serbantez told the Court the courtroom where the commissioner meets will be remodeled, plus the judge’s office will also undergo some remodeling. The Court approved both agenda items.

Moving on, the next item of business, the Court would take action on bids for a semi-truck in Precinct 2, Commissioner Richard Cavazos’ precinct. Only one bid came back and it was from Bruckner’s Mack & Volvo. The bid was for a 2016 Mack with a $90,296.00 price tag. The Court approved the purchase.

The meeting was adjourned and the next scheduled meeting is slated for Monday, July 14, 2023, at 9:00 am in the Commissioners Court Chambers in the basement of the Terry County Courthouse.
