The children wrapped up a very busy StoryTime month at the Yoakum County Library in Plains on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, with a caterpillar-spring theme.
While discussing the weather outside—HELLO SPRING!—and counting to twenty-two was enjoyable, the most energy was put in to the “Days of the Week” song. Continuing with the musical enthusiasm, the youngsters put their fingers to work for “Five Little Hot Dogs.” Following the songs, the children discussed the American and Texas flags, as well as reciting the pledges.
A felt board activity put bright umbrellas to work aiding the group in number and color recognition. The children then turned their attention to two other caterpillar books: “The Hungry Caterpillar” and “Ten Little Caterpillars.”
A finger-painting caterpillar craft kept the little ones busy, as well as a STEAM play station matching rainbow colors with pompoms and buttons. A short episode of Word World titled “Bit by Bit” furthered their letter recognition, and the motion rhyme “Wave Good-bye” was recited as they prepared to exit. Each child left with their green bag of goodies: puzzle and color sheet, butterfly sticker, parent resource, and fruit snack.
Those in attendance were Rhea, Reiner, Ben, Gershom, Payton, Ariyel, Selah, Tabitha, Kefira, Gabe, Moriah, John, Tirzah, Elijah, and Aspen.
