Seuss-riffic StoryTime at Plains Yoakum County Library

StoryTime at the Yoakum County Library in Plains was maxed out in FUN on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. The special hour honored of Dr. Seuss’ 113th birthday as it also participated in the National Education Association’s “Read Across America” campaign.

As the children trickled in, the group talked about the new month on the calendar, followed by singing “Days of the Week.” The youngsters gathered close to hear about Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) and his many accomplishments. The first book read was “The Cat in the Hat.” After this classic, they enjoyed a game of Pin the Eggs on the Plate (similar to Pin the Tail but with green eggs).

A reading of “Green Eggs and Ham” led to the potato-stamping craft of painting green “eggs!” Then the children excitedly welcomed a piece of the unmistakable stovepipe hat in the form of classic-white and strawberry cupcakes (thanks to United Supermarkets). What a tasty treat to celebrate a classic author. A short clip called “Lost Egg” of PBS’s “The Cat in the Hat Knows a lot about That” was shown while the youngsters ate the delicious snacks. The families each exited the party with a goodie bag which included a small book by Dr. Seuss.

Those in attendance were Payton, Ariyel, Moriah, John, Brit, Ben, Tirzah, Ansony, Bryson, Aspen, Tabitha, Elijah, Selah, Kefira, Gabe, Nellie, and Luis.

StoryTime is open to kids of all ages and their caregivers, meeting weekly at the Yoakum County Library in Plains on Wednesdays at 10 am during the regular school year. There will not be any StoryTime on Wednesday, March 15 due to Spring Break.
