On Wednesday, February 15, 2017, the Yoakum County Library in Plains cooperated with the Yoakum County Sheriff’s Department to host a safety program. We are grateful for their service to our community as well as the opportunity to connect with the children.
Following the pledges to the United States and Texas flags, the youngsters listened to the reading of “How Do Dinosaurs Stay Safe?”. The group was excited to see a multitude of peace-keeping officers, from jailers to deputies to Sheriff Bryant! The presentation given by Deputy Lopez to the children focused on emergencies and dialing 9-1-1, as well as discussing what roles the Sheriff’s Office plays.
The families were given the opportunity to have their children fingerprinted for safety identification. The excitement continued by seeing the inside of the deputy’s vehicle! No sirens to startle anyone but lights were included! As the children departed from their new heroes with all smiles, each attendee was given a bag of goodies with school supplies and safety activities.
Family StoryTime at Yoakum County Library Plains meets every Wednesday at 10 am during the regular school year. All children and their caregivers are encouraged to attend. Mark your calendar today for March 1, 2017, at 10AM for a special “Read Across America/Dr. Seuss’ Birthday” celebration.
