From Inside Red Raider Sports
Texas Tech added to its ever-growing 2021 commitment list with the pledge of Solomon Wright, a 6-foot, 280-pound defensive tackle out of Vian, Oklahoma. The three-star defensive lineman announced his commitment via Twitter on Friday afternoon.
Wright racked up 91 tackles, 31 stops for loss, 11 sacks, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and the rare pick-six from a defensive tackle last season as a junior. He chose the Red Raiders over reported offers from Iowa State, Massachusetts, North Texas and Oklahoma State.
“I am beyond thankful and blessed to have been given an opportunity to play at the next level. After a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided to commit to Texas Tech University. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the coaching staff is awesome. I would like to thank all of the coaches who have been interested in me, as well as the coaches who have trained and supported me along the way. Thank you to my friends and family for the insurmountable support, I love you all. I can’t wait for what God has planned for my future at Tech! WreckEm!”
He picked up the offer from Texas Tech in early March when he visited campus as part of a large group of recruits who were on-hand for the start of spring ball and treated to seats at the Red Raider basketball team’s Big 12 showdown with Kansas.
“Thank you coach Matt Wells, coach Paul Randolph and coach Keith Patterson for sharing your vision today with me and what it means to be a Red Raider,” Wrote Wright on Twitter about picking up the offer from Texas Tech. “I’m truly blessed to be in this position and thankful to be offered a scholarship to play Football at Texas Tech.”
The three-star defensive tackle is rated as the No. 890 overall player in America, the No. 48 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 14 overall recruit in Oklahoma by the 247Sports Composite, an average of the major recruiting service rankings. 247Sports itself, has Wright rated as the No. 38 defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 16 overall prospect in Oklahoma.
Wright is the eighth commitment of Texas Tech’s 2021 recruiting class. His pledge boosts the class from No. 27 nationally and No. 4 in the Big 12 to 22nd and second, respectively. He’s the third defensive lineman in the class joining strongside defensive ends E’maurion Banks and Charles Esters, who both committed in April. On the other side of the ball Texas Tech also holds commitments from four-star quarterback Behren Morton, four-star receiver Jerand Bradley, a pair of three-start tight ends in Jed Castles and Mason Tharp, plus three-star offensive lineman Jack Tucker, one of the coaching staff’s top priorities this recruiting cycle.
Texas Tech also added grad transfers Josh Burger, an offensive lineman from Wofford, and linebacker Jacob Morgenstern, a linebacker from Duke, to the roster in April.
Wright’s also Tech’s first out-of-state commit for this recruiting cycle and the son of former Oklahoma State All-big 12 and NFL linebacker Kenyatta Wright.
