New life being planted at local cemeteries

According to Terry County Sheriff Timothy Click, there will more life seen in the next few days at the local cemeteries. One hundred new Juniper evergreen type trees will be planted next week.

Click stated, “We are excited to continue to get rid of the old dead trees and replace them with some new ones. It will make everything look much better.” Just under 100 trees were planted last year at both the Terry County and the Brownfield Cemeteries. The planting of the new trees will continue the work started last October, with trees being planted along the north side of the Brownfield Cemetery, and along the west and east sides of the Terry County Cemetery.

“We are purchasing these trees locally from the Olive Branch Greenhouse and Garden business on the Seagraves Road. We are getting them for $15 per tree, so she is giving us a good deal on them,” stated Click.  The irrigation system necessary to keep the trees growing is also local. PVC, fittings, and drip nozzles are being purchased from Texas Ag Plus. The Sheriff’s Office is providing the free labor to get the job done.

The cost of this project will be right around $3,000 or more. “Many people do not realize that the cemeteries operate, for the most part, on donations from the public. We will need more donations to cover this cost. We all want a nice cemetery, and your donations are what make this happen,” stated Click.

If you would like to donate to the Terry County Cemetery Association, you may drop your donation by the Terry County Treasurer’s office in the Courthouse, or drop it by the Terry County Law Enforcement Center on Tahoka Road.

It is great to live in a community where everyone works together to keep things looking great! Please consider a donation to this very worthy cause.
