Funeral services for Muriel Cates, 92, of Denver City, Texas, and formerly a longtime resident of Hobbs, NM, will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, in the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Donnie Rollie of Odessa, TX will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Denver City Memorial Park Cemetery. Ms. Cates passed from this life on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, in the Shinnery Oaks Community Care Center and was reunited with those cherished ones who passed before her. The family will be available for a visitation on Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel in Denver City.
Muriel was born Sept. 15, 1924, to the late Hinds and Eula Black in Pontotoc County, MS. As a young child, her family moved to the Seagraves area. Muriel graduated in the second class of Denver City High School. She went to work for General Telephone shortly thereafter and worked in Seagraves, Carlsbad, and Hobbs before retiring as an Operator in Hobbs after 39 years of service.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; brothers, Loy, Coy, and Layne Black; plus numerous other friends and loved ones. Survivors include a daughter, Pam Seeberger and husband, Dan of Hobbs, NM; two grandchildren, Lauri Horton and husband, Steve of Southlake, Texas, and Jobe Seeberger and wife, Amanda of Amarillo, Texas; and one great-granddaughter, Haley Grace Horton of Southlake, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ms. Cates will be remembered for her love of family, her feistiness, and her honesty. Special thanks to Dr. Cotton, Yoakum County Hospital, Home Hospice, and the precious staff at Shinnery Oaks Community. God’s blessings to you all.
