After rejecting the Los Angeles Lakers Dan Hurley has signed a 6-year, $50 million contract. Which is $20 million less than what the Lakers offered for the same number of years. This shows that money isn’t everything to him and the Lakers couldn’t persuade a respected collegiate head coach to join them. This might show the state of the Lakers organization and how some would not want to be a part of that dumpster fire.

Having to deal with the Bus family, Lebron James, having to have drafted Bronny James instead of the guy that they wanted all has a part to play. Not to mention how Klay Thompson stayed away from the Lakers organization to play for the Dallas Mavericks. Klay’s father is an employee of the Lakers and that couldn’t sway him to join them after him, there was no other player that the Lakers wanted to sign.
There were talks about trying to get DeMar DeRozan, but he went to the Sacramento Kings. This would lead to the Lakers signing Lebron for a two-year contract. This indicates that the Lakers don’t care about winning. They are the LakeShow with Lebron, just not the championship contenders that the Magic lead Lakers were in the past. With all this unfolding after Hurley rejected the Lakers’ offer, it makes sense why he wouldn’t want to join them. One thing to add is that Dan Hurley could have leveraged the Lakers offer to get a bigger contract at UConn, which could very well be the case. Ultimately he finds himself 50 million dollars richer and still a powerhouse in NCAA basketball.
