Making a Difference

I have been reading about Jehoshaphat in the Bible. I know. You are busy asking yourself, “who the heck is Jehoshaphat??” He is just another one of the minor characters who play very big roles. He was the fourth king of Judah. He was a godly king. When you read in the Chronicles and the Books of the Kings, the kings would often be described as “one who do right in the sight of God,” or “one who did evil in the sight of God.” Jehoshaphat did follow God. He made some mistakes along the way, but ultimately, would turn to God for guidance.

In 2 Chronicles 20, we are told that a vast army was coming up against Judah. In verse 3, we see, “Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all of Judah. The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord, indeed they came from every town in Judah to seek Him.” What a great king/leader!

It goes on to say that this king stood up in front of the people and prayed to the Lord. I love that. As we have seen in kings, and in the leaders in our nation and our world, the pride often runs so deep in a person, they would not dare “stoop” to talk to God in front of their people. Wouldn’t it be great if we truly did see more of our world leaders resolving to inquire of the Lord before they act?

He prays for a few verses in this chapter, but the main one I want to bring out is verse 12. “O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” Oh don’t you love this verse! King Jehoshaphat is standing in front of his people admitting he just flat has no idea what to do. But, he says, “Our eyes are upon you.”

Do I really need to say anything more? Whatever you are facing. Whatever “vast army” is advancing toward you, whether it is health, family, finances, work. Whatever is advancing toward you, turn your eyes upon Him. That old song says “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. The things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”

There is no problem, worry, issue, anything that is too big in your life that God can’t handle. There is nothing so small that He doesn’t care. Whatever is in your life today, give it to God and resolve to inquire of Him and keep your eyes on Him. It will make a difference!
