Easter Sunday. This is such a special day. The day that our Lord and Savior won victory over death. The day that proves that our faith in this One is absolutely justified. A day that brings great hope for all who follow Him. But, so much had to happen to make this day come to pass.
God loved us so completely and so passionately that He had a plan for our salvation long before Jesus ever came to live on earth. He worked it all out from the very beginning. The line of Abraham to Isaac to Jacob, all the way to David and then from there on to Joseph and then Jesus. This was all prophesied in the Old Testament in many places. They say there are 332 prophecies about Jesus’ coming. And all those prophecies have come true. All those years before Jesus was ever born! So what does that mean?
It means that Jesus was always a part of God’s plan. It means that God continually revealed His plan to man. It means that God’s Word can be trusted. It means He is faithful to what He promises. It means . . . everything!
While we celebrate Jesus’ birth, and we should, we should take just as much delight, or more in what happened on Easter. He lived a sin free life. He went through the same temptations that we do. He taught in the face of opposition. He loved completely and made no distinction in people. Then He gave Himself willingly to die a horrible death He did not deserve on a cross. The most humiliating way to die in those days. He humbled Himself completely for you and me. He gave Himself on the cross for the very people who were mocking Him. He gave Himself for the very ones who were holding the hammer and the nails. Oh my goodness! What love is this!
As we celebrate this Easter with the pretty dresses and the eggs and all the things ( and there is nothing wrong with any of that!), pause and think about the sacrifice that was made for you.
There is a famous message by S.M. Lockridge, that goes through the whole week prior to the Savior’s death, and ends it all with “Sunday is a comin!” Through it all, Sunday was always on the way. Even though He had to suffer so many injustices and so much agony, Sunday was always coming. Don’t lose sight of Friday, when He was nailed on the cross, but never forget that Sunday came and He arose from the grave! Praise God He arose from the grave!! Oh my goodness! How can you not shout His Name! On Palm Sunday, as He rode into town and the crowd was singing and yelling and praising His very name, the Pharisees asked Him to quiet the people. He said, “If I quiet the people, the very rocks will begin to shout!” Oh Father, never let the rocks have to shout in my presence! Let my life glorify You in all I do! Let my very life shout Your Name everywhere I go!
It makes a difference!
