Making a Difference

I had an interesting visit with someone this morning. She was very sweet and not from here. She was actually originally from Haiti. But, in talking to her, she so easily mentioned her faith in God without any hesitation. In my job, I am not necessarily supposed to mix my faith with my work. And I get that. It is fine, but I do often find ways to be sure people know who I serve. Mostly, I hope they can just sense it by my actions and by my words, and maybe even by the smile on my face as we visit. But she brought up her faith first, so I did not hesitate to talk with her about the plans God has for our lives. She was open and understood exactly what I meant.

My point in this is to say, you don’t have to stand on the street corner with your Bible waving in the air to let people know who you serve. You don’t have to go door to door, not that it hurts! You don’t have to wear a shirt that says, “I love Jesus.” More often than not, our best witness for Jesus is our life. Who does your life say you serve?

In Acts 4:13, Luke writes, “When they saw the courage of Peter and John…they could tell these men had been with Jesus.” I love this so much! They could tell these men had been with Jesus simply by watching them live! Oh my goodness! That is so my goal! I want  people to watch me live and go, “Yeah. She has been with Jesus.” Wouldn’t that be great! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all lived our lives in such a manner that even people we don’t know could watch us just living our lives and recognize that we serve God?

How do we show this to people randomly out in the world? We show it by how we care for others. We show it by how we do the simple things, like pick up trash we find, or return shopping carts, or by being courteous to those who are serving us. We show it by going the extra mile for someone else. We show it by loving those that are hardest to love. We show it by being who God made us to be.

I use the word intentional a lot. We have to live intentional lives if we want to live a life that can make a difference for others. Being a great representative for Christ does not happen by accident. We must decide each day. Each minute to serve Him on purpose. Not just if it fits our schedule.

Be intentional about being God’s person wherever you are. Not by waving your Bible around, but instead by living your life as an example of the change Christ has made in your heart. It will make a difference!
