I was recently traveling for work and stayed at a hotel with a restaurant. When I got the email with the bill for my room, there was a pretty good sized charge to my room for a meal eaten in their restaurant. It was not me. But they sent a copy of the ticket and it was signed to my room with my name on it. But it still wasn’t me. I am not sure how this will finally be resolved, but it is irritating that someone would use my name to do something like that. (I secretly hope the meal gave them the worst indigestion!)
Our name represents who we are. People know your name. My daddy used to tell us to remember whose kids we were when we would leave the house. Meaning, do not bring dishonor to our name. I try to live up to that. I try hard to live a life of which my daddy and mom would be proud. I often fall short. But I do try!
If you have given your life to Christ, you wear His name. In all you do, wherever you go, you are taking His name with you. How is that name holding up in your life? How do we live a life that brings honor to the name of Christ?
We must be serious about living lives that honor Him. We have to, of course, spend time in His Word, and spend time talking to Him and listening to Him. If you are not spending any time at all with the Savior, then how in the world will you ever learn to recognize His voice? You have to spend time in His Word so you can recognize what is true and good, when the world offers us so many distractions and diversions. Living a life that honors Him has to involve Him!! That is just so basic.
God created each of us with a plan and a purpose for our lives. He knew before we were ever even born what great things He had planned for us. Nothing that happens in our lives is a shock to Him. He already knows when we will honor Him and even when we will dishonor Him. But, the wonderfully amazing thing is that He still chooses us each day. In spite of our failures, in spite of our sins, He continues to choose us.
Why would we ever want to live a life that would bring anything less than honor to the Name of the One who offers us the gift of eternal life? Why would we ever choose less than His best for our lives? Yet we do it day after day.
This week, be intentional about living a life that will bring honor to the Name at which every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that He is indeed Lord! It will make a difference!
