The wind is howling outside as I write this. Yesterday was beautiful. The day before was warm. Yesterday was cooler. Today is even cooler. Yesterday was sunny. Today is overcast and, honestly looks like a winter day! The weather is certainly changeable in this neck of the woods. Everyday is different. So it is with our lives. Everyday is different. Some days are delightful and great. Other days, you wish you had just stayed in bed. And people are the same. Sometimes those around you are chipper and smiling. The next, they are grumpy and hard to get along with. Changes!
We all change from day to day. We are all impacted by life around us. We all know people who allow what is going on around them to engulf them and make changes in their attitudes. I have always said, “Your attitude is the only thing you really own. You can’t control what goes on around you, but you can control your attitude about those things.” Social media is great for highlighting attitudes! We all know that person who you never have to wonder about how they feel about things. They post it right there for all of us to know. “I’m over it!” “Disappointed!” “Today is not the day to mess with me!” All things we have seen all over social media. All without a clue to tell us what horrendous thing has happened that they have allowed to color their whole day. Was it a bad day? Or was it a bad five minutes? The difference is huge.
We are told in the Bible to be thankful in all situations. Not necessarily thankful FOR the situation, but be thankful that our God is walking through the situation with us. Certainly, we are allowed to be disappointed about things, but think it through and find what there is for which to be grateful in spite of the situation. When life threatens to overwhelm you, turn to the One who knows the pathway. When life seems to be out of control, turn to the One who is in control. When life is full of too many changes, turn to the One who never changes.
We do not have to live lives ruled by our emotions. We can all allow God to take control of our lives and our attitude and we can all give everything over to Him, and then go about our day with a smile on our face! Life is tough. But we don’t have to allow it to hammer us down. We accept the disappointment. Hold our heads up. Give it to God and walk on with a smile on our face.
Let God have control of your life. Your whole life. It will make a difference!
