JV Fillies Suffer First Loss

The junior varsity Fillie softball team suffered their first loss of the season Friday when they were defeated in a slug fest 22-12 by Van Horn’s varsity on the Fillies home turf.

The visiting Van Horn team jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in their half of the first inning. The Fillies came back with a single run in the bottom of the first only to see Van Horn plate 10 runs over the next two innings for a 13-9 lead. Nine more runs over the final two innings sealed the deal for Van Horn for the final 22-12 win.

Led by Karmin Villegas 3 hits the Fillies finished with 9 hits in the game. Jackie Escalante and Daniela Escobar both collected 2 hits and Paola Verdugo and Victoria Garcia each finished one hit.

Verdugo had 3 RBI’s, Villegas had 2, and Escalante and Garcia both had one.

Becca McCleskey went the distance for the Fillies and suffered the loss. She gave up 22 runs on 18 hits, struck out 7 and issued 7 base on balls.

The loss dropped the Fillies record to 4-1. They traveled to Lubbock Estacado on Tuesday and will be open on Saturday before having a home game the following Tuesday against the Lubbock Titans.
