The City of Brownfield is celebrating 100 years of City government on July 4th this year. And there are so many activities planned! You don’t want to miss out on any of it.
The weekend of fun will start on July 3rd with the Cornhole Tournament sponsored by Our Promise Youth Academy. You can enter a team in the tournament or just show up for the food and fun. There will be a concession stand and the fun starts at 9 a.m.
Call Johnny at OPYA for more information. Look out! Some of our City leaders may be involved. This a fund raiser for OPYA and they do such a great service for our community. Let’s get out and support them!
Also on July 3rd will be the 52nd running of the West Texas Firecracker Run. This run is the longest continually run road race in Texas. (See more information in another story on this site.)
July 4th falls on a Sunday this year, so no activities are planned by the City for that day.
But, July 5th is a BIG day for Terry County!
The fun begins at 5:45 p.m. on July 5th, down in the park with Opening Ceremonies.
At 6 p.m., there will be the Shine and Show Cruise. A great parade of classic cars that will delight everyone. For more information, contact Layne Marlow.
At 7 p.m. will be the Park Parade down through the park. You are invited to decorate your golf cart, your bicycle, strollers, or whatever non-motorized (No cars or pickups) you want and participate in this parade. Or, you can just decorate yourself and stroll through the park and celebrate our great nation’s birthday and the anniversary of our great town!
The parade will start at the amphitheater at 7 p.m., and will go around by Brownfield Rehab and Care Center and then down Old Lamesa Road and back into the park So much fun!
At 8 p.m. the great Spur 327 Band will be performing a free concert. This band features Brownfield native Todd Chambers. Todd grew up here and graduated from BHS. He is excited to bring his band back to his home town. You will love this group. They will be performing at the Amphitheater.
There will be vendors available at the park all evening long. And there is still time to sign up for a vendor booth, but time is running out! Contact City Hall for more information on having a booth. City Hall’s number is 806.637.4547.
There will be Harvest Festival Queen Candidates out asking for your support, as well.
The final event of the day will be a spectacular fireworks show!! This will be professionally done and should be fantastic. There are VIP parking spaces still available at the Sports Complex for optimum viewing!
