John G Contreras, age 86 went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 19, 2015 in Brownfield.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Templo Sinai, Assembly of God with Pastor Samuel Emiliano officiating. Burial will following at Brownfield Cemetery in Brownfield, TX. Personal services have been entrusted to Mark A Jones Funeral Directors of Brownfield.
John was born to Celso and Augustina Contreras on May 19, 1929 in Lamesa, TX. He has been a life-long resident of Brownfield. John met and married, the love of his life, Carmen Lara on September 7, 1947 in Pecos, Texas. She precedes him in death, after 57 years of marriage, on August 11, 2005.
His family remembers how he was a people’s person. He always had a smile on his face and loved making jokes. He walked every day, spending time with the grandchildren and tinkering with tractors. John loved the Lord and loved to read the BIBLE.
John’s hobbies were collecting coins, John Deer Tractors and baseball hats.
Those left to cherish his memories are 4 sons: Arturo Contreras (Carmella) of Sinton, Ismael Contreras, Johnny Contreras (Grace) and Richard Contreras all of Brownfield; 4 daughters: Connie Juarez (Tomas Rivera) of San Antonio, Yolanda Galvan (Joe) of Lovington, New Mexico, Helen Morin (Eddie) and Suzanne Contreras all of Brownfield. He was also blessed with 24 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons: Juanito Contreras, Jr. and Luis Contreras; 1 grandson: Adrian Galvan and 1 brother Ben Contreras.
