Welcome back to Horton’s Pick ‘Ems. I went 87-10 last week. As always, most games are from the West Texas area, which includes the South Plains, Panhandle, Permian Basin, Big Country, and the Concho Valley. In the list below, there are 89 games in Week 8, Oct. 17-19, 2024. Teams with the ( ) next to it mean they are ranked in the state in their respective class and divisions. The school (team) on the left is Eric Horton’s pick. We encourage you all to pick which team will win.

District competition is in full swing, with the exception of four districts: 1-3A DI, 2-3A DI, 3-3A DII, and 3-4A DI, which all have byes this week before they begin district action. River Road, from 1-3A DI, will be playing against a team from Oklahoma, but I did not include that game on the picks list. There are only 16 undefeated teams in the Pick ‘Ems, which are Buena Vista, Bushland, Post, Gruver, Hawley, Iraan, Motley County, Panhandle, Permian, Randall, Ropes, Seminole, Spur, Stamford, Sunray, and Whiteface. Two exciting games to watch on Friday night will be Littlefield traveling north to take on Muleshoe, potentially for the district championship, and the Battle of I-27 as Abernathy travels seven miles south to take on long-time rival New Deal. I picked the home team in the first game and believe the Angry Antelopes will secure a win in the second game.
Here are my weekly picks
