Lady Cubs Continue to Show Growth
The Brownfield Lady Cubs faced two challenging opponents last week, falling to Plains at home before battling Abernathy on the road.
Brownfield hosted Plains on Saturday but couldn’t slow down a Cowgirls team that has been playing some of its best volleyball of the season. Plains swept the match 3-0, with reported set scores of 25-0, 25-0 and 25-0.
The Lady Cubs returned to the court against Abernathy and came out strong, winning the opening set 25-19. The Lady Antelopes responded by capturing the next three sets, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-13, to secure the 3-1 victory.
Despite the loss, Brownfield’s coach was encouraged by the Lady Cubs’ effort and development.
“We played Abernathy last week, and even though we fell short, I was really proud of the way our girls competed,” the coach said. “They played hard from start to finish and continued to fight for every point. We’re seeing a lot of growth from this group, and I love the way they continue to compete and push each other.”
The Lady Cubs have a young roster, with several players stepping into larger roles and gaining valuable experience each week.
“They’re working hard, they’re coachable, and they continue to show a lot of heart on the court,” the coach said. “I’m really proud of the progress we’re making and excited to see where this team can go as the season continues.”
The back-to-back losses moved Brownfield’s season record to 1-8. The Lady Cubs will have additional time to regroup and prepare before facing the Talkington School for Young Women Leaders at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Lady Cats Show Grit and Growth During Strong Week
The #19 Wellman-Union Lady Cats continued to show growth and toughness last week, earning victories over Post and Southcrest while battling through a demanding schedule.
On Tuesday, Wellman-Union hosted a dual match against Post and the West Texas Tornadoes. The Lady Cats opened the evening with a win over Post before returning to the court for a competitive three-set battle against the Tornadoes.
Although Wellman-Union fell in the second match, the Lady Cats competed hard from beginning to end. Back-to-back matches challenged the team mentally and physically, but the players kept battling, encouraged one another, and responded well in difficult moments.
The Lady Cats returned to action Saturday against a solid Southcrest team. Wellman-Union remained composed, made the necessary adjustments, and found a way to secure another victory. Emalyn Navarro led the Lady Cats’ offense with 10 kills, while the team recorded an impressive 22 service aces.
The week demonstrated Wellman-Union’s continued improvement, especially in its toughness and ability to compete through adversity. The Lady Cats will play their final nondistrict match Tuesday against New Home, giving them one more chance to fine-tune the details and build momentum before district play begins next week.
