Making a Difference

I have a new dog. Well, I have had him for nearly five months now. His name is Trip and he is just that. A trip! I have enjoyed him much more than I thought I would. I have not had an indoor dog since I was a kid, and haven’t had a dog at all in probably close to 30 years! I did not know what I was getting myself into.

Trip is a good dog but he likes to chew. He will eat anything that is in front of him, if I don’t stop him. Last Saturday, during that horribly windy day where we couldn’t really spend much time outdoors, Trip ate a portion of my bath mat, a corner off a book I had been reading, and found a space where the baseboard was not finished yet and began to eat drywall tape! He was a busy boy. If he is not monitored, he will pretty much eat anything.

Our kids are much the same, as are we! Not that we will eat anything out there, but our minds will devour whatever is placed in front of us. Our kids have to be watched. There is so much out there today on the internet, and even on our televisions. We have to be so cautious and pay such careful attention to what they are feeding on. The same is true with us! We have to have disciplined minds and hearts to steer clear of things that are not good for us. The best way to do this is to have a mind full of Christ.

When we are actively teaching our children about God in our homes, and when we are going to a church with them where Jesus is taught, their little minds have less room for the world. Just like us. When we have been actively seeking God and trying to follow His guidance and spending time in His Word, our minds have little room for the things of this world.

There is a verse Psalm 34 that says, “O taste and see that the LORD is good.” When you find your mind hungry, feed on the Word of God. Spend time talking with Him. See for yourself that He is good and His words are sweet. His words can fill your mind, so there is no room for the things of this world that have no place in our lives.

Be sure that you and your family are actively feeding on the Word of God. Be diligent in watching what your kiddos are doing on the internet. Be diligent in your own life. Develop the discipline you need to steer clear from what should not have any place in your life. Pray for help and guidance. It will make a difference!
