  • UIL Realignment– The UIL realignment will be announced on Thursday, February 1st. The new alignments will be posted on the UIL website as well as the social media pages. These alignments are responsible for classification and the possible change of districts for schools all across Texas. February 2, 2024: Groundhogs Day

  • Groundhog Day– Groundhog Day is always fun, especially here in Brownfield where the weather changes… everyday! Groundhog Day is originally a Pennsylvania Dutch Tradition that occurs every year on February 2nd. The United States and Canada have historically observed the tradition since 1887! If the Groundhog casts a shadow, that’s supposedly adding on six more weeks of winter, but as we are accustomed to here in West Texas, it is easy to go from 80 degrees one day to 40 degrees the next.

February 8, 2024: Annual Chamber Chocolate Crawl

  • Chamber of Commerce Chocolate Crawl- The Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Chocolate Crawl for Terry County on February 8th! Local businesses will be offering sweet deals for shoppers! There will also be prizes to win, and sweet treats when you walk through the doors of a local business! With every purchase, you will earn an entry to win the giveaways!

February 14, 2024: Valentines Day

  • Valentine’s Day- A Holiday that celebrates love has a pretty unique history. February 14th is the designated day for individuals to show their partners appreciation, usually with flowers, a night out, and candy. This holiday has disputed reasons for how it originated, but many believe that it is actually celebrated in the name of St. Valentine, a Saint who married young couples in secret, after Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers, and outlawed marriage under his rule. Whether this legend is true is up to you, but it definitely makes for a fun Holiday!

February 22, 2024: Presidents Day

  • Presidents Day- Presidents Day occurs every year on the third Monday in the month of February. It started to honor the first president, George Washington, as his birthday is February 22nd. It was traditionally celebrated because we also observed President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, which fell on February 12th. Because of this, it was implemented in 1879 as a National Holiday that observes our many presidents’ sacrifices and duty to the United States.
