In my Bible study last night, we talked about the generations long impact a certain decision has had on even life today. It is hard to imagine that any decision made over four thousand years ago would still be having an impact today, but it does. Fast forward to this morning. I had the pleasure of visiting with a man who is very interested in helping our area to grow and prosper. Through our conversation, he talked about a man for whom he worked when he first moved to this area. The man and his wife would invite him into their home for meals on occasion. One day the woman asked if he had a Bible. He didn’t even know what that was. She gave him one and he began to read it. And, he says, “That was how I found the Lord.”
This man has gone on to work hard in his church and at his job and has seen success in both. All because nearly 50 years ago, a man invited him into his home to eat and a lady gave him a Bible. The choices we make have a lasting effect. Don’t ever kid yourself into thinking otherwise.
I was talking to a kiddo yesterday who is a very talented athlete. He doesn’t always make the best of decisions. We had a conversation about how the choices he makes can have an effect on his future. That each day does not just stand alone. They blend into each other to build our lives. I know what he wants for his life, but the choices he is making now won’t get him to what he wants.
As we get up each morning, we are faced with a day full of decisions and choices. This morning, I changed my shirt three times before I finally left the house. Will that decision have a lasting impact on anyone’s life? Not likely. I took the time to talk and listen to this man and his words. A business meeting turned life story time. Will that decision have a lasting impact? Yes it will. I learned so much from this man. It was obviously impressed upon me one more time that the choices we make can have an impact on our future and the future of our loved ones. This man’s life was not the only one changed. His wife, his kids, his grandkids, his neighbors, his friends, me.
Make the decision today to make each decision you make reflect God in all you do. Make the choice that you will try hard to follow God in every choice in life. Think carefully about your family and loved ones before you make choices that have the potential to harm or help.
Our God is there to guide us and to lead us in the path we should walk. Trust Him. It will make a difference.
