Two vehicle accidents took place less than 12 hours after each other at the same intersection. On Thursday afternoon before 6:00 pm, a juvenile was driving a late model gray Ram 2500. As the driver of the truck was heading west on FM 211, he crossed US 62/82 to continue west on FM 211 and failed to yield the right of way when a late model white Cadillac Escalade driving south on UDS 62/82 crashed into the passenger side of the bed of the truck. The Ram would come to rest facing north taking out the stop sign, and the Escalade would come to rest facing southwest on the railroad tracks.

The driver and passenger of the Ram and the driver and passenger of the Escalade were all treated at the scene. BRMC EMC, Brownfield Fire & Rescue, Meadow FD, TxDPS, and Terry County Sheriff’s Dept. all worked the scene.

The next accident took place less than 12 hours on Friday, August 26, 2022, at about 5:45 a.m. A Levelland ISD school bus was traveling east on 211, as the driver came to the intersection, he failed to yield the right of way to a semi-truck hauling a tanker trailer full of gasoline. The truck struck the nose of the bus, causing the driver of the truck to lose control and roll the truck and trailer.

There were no children on the bus, however, there was an adult male passenger on the bus who is a “bus aide”. The bus in question belongs to Levelland ISD, however, the SPECO COOP uses it. The bus is used for special needs students from Anton, Levelland, Meadow, Ropes, Smyer, Sundown, and Whiteface.

Both drivers and passenger were sent by ambulance to BRMC with minor injuries. Terry Co. Sheriff’s Dept, BRMC EMS, TxDPS, TxDOT, Meadow FD, and Brownfield F&RD responded to the scene. The South Plains Regional Materials Response Team was called out to the scene to secure and help clean up the fuel spill from the truck. Traffic was diverted.
