Meadow Broncos Strive For Two District Wins In A Row

by Eric

After last weeks win over cross county rival Wellman-Union 67-22 the Broncos look to continue their district winning streak over Borden County tonight in a classic class 1A Six-man football matchup.

Typically the Coyotes would be ranked in the top 5 in state however this season has been a tough one to say the least. Borden County sits with an uncharacteristic 1-5 record and has had the 45 point mercy rule applied to them three times. The Coyotes have allowed an average of 57 points a game and they’ve scored an average of 25 points a game.

Borden County and Meadow have one team in common coming into tonight’s matchup which is Newcastle. The Broncos lost to Newcastle in week one  47-46 in what could’ve been a win for Meadow if there were more time on the clock. Borden Co. beat Newcastle and got their first real win of the season last week winning 83-52. Although the Coyotes have had a subpar season, they have won 13 straight district titles and you have to go back to the 2007 season when Borden County missed the playoffs. Champions breed champions and that is no exception for Borden County. Theses players know what is on the line for them tonight.

Meadow on the other hand has an explosive offense in their QB Tate McBee, running backs Jimmy German & Kaleb Sanchez, receivers Paul Franco & Brady Parker, and not to mention Sr. Niko Castaneda who can do about anything. These same players can also be explosive on defense as well. Head Coach Josh Conner said, “Tonight’s game vs Borden County is a big game and we feel confident that we can make it a good game and come out victorious.” According to Coach Conner, Borden County has been on their minds most of the season and knows how hard no matter what the Coyotes record is, the Broncos have got to be focused. “The team has been working very hard this week and have been very focused as well.” said Coach Conner.

Look for the Broncos to be balanced tonight on offense. Last week against the Wildcats the Broncos had some major big plays through the air, but Borden Counties defense will be up to the task. Keys to tonights game will be special teams getting the job done. Niko Castaneda must have a perfect kicking game for the PATs and kickoffs. Also this game might come down to just one turnover. So the Broncos will need to hold on to the ball, plus create turnover when they are on defense. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. tonight October 15, 2021 at Meadow.
