Cubs to host Kermit on Friday night

After losing to Shallowater last week, the Brownfield Cubs are itching to get back on the field this Friday night and show what they can do. They will face the Kermit Yellowjackets on Friday, October 15.

Kermit lost to Slaton last week in a heartbreaking 27-26 defeat. They will come in hungry.

Cubs Head Coach Aarrhon Flores stated, “Kermit is not very big and there are not many of them. We will match up well with them in a lot of ways. They have lots of guys that play both sides of the ball. This will be the first team we have faced that truly does come in matching up with us.”

Kermit has been bitten by the injury bug. Their starting quarterback is hurt. Their star running back went out with a broken ankle in last week’s contest. According to Flores, “They are going to be going through a lot of adjustments.”

Flores plans for the Cubs to come out physical from the very beginning. “We want to get the edge right at the start. We have a great chance to jump on them and get ahead quickly.”

Flores feels that the Cubs special teams will have a huge impact in the game. “Our special teams will be ready to go and be ready to be aggressive on the field.”

The Cubs started sophomore George Rivera at QB last week, for his first start of the season. He showed a lot of poise, and really showed no fear on the field. Expect to see George again this week, but look for Zarius Garcia to really have a role in moving the ball.

“Our kids really believe in what we are doing. They are working hard every day and are ready to knock that zero out of the win column. We are ready for Kermit. It will be a good game,” stated Flores.

The game will be at Cub Stadium on Friday night, October 15, beginning at 7 p.m.

This game will also be Military Night for the Cubs. All branches of the military will be honored.
