2021 South Plains UWCD Water Conservation Calendars Available

by admin

Come and Get it!  The 2021 South Plains Underground Water Conservation District calendars are available and ready to be picked up.

Each year as part of the Southern Ogallala Conservation and Outreach Program (SOCOP), the SPUWCD conducts a calendar artwork contest open to all Terry County fourth and fifth graders.  Even though COVID-19 caused some disruptions in the spring schedule, students from Brownfield, Meadow, and Wellman-Union were still able to participate in the contest.  Winners were recognized at the end of the year and received their winning prize money as well as a certificate of achievement.  The calendar features original student artwork promoting the importance of conserving water.

Gunner Skains of Brownfield, an Oak Grove 4th grader in Spring 2020, designed the 2021 cover entitled “Gunner’s Garden”. Additionally, twelve other winners were awarded from local schools and are featured on the monthly pages of the calendar.

To obtain your free 2021 SPUWCD calendar, come by the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District office located at 802 Tahoka Road in Brownfield.  You may also email savegroundwater@gmail.com or call (806)637-7467 to request your calendar or obtain information about other programs available through the Education and Outreach Cooperative program.
