TEXAS. Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released updated details following a fatal crash that occurred early this morning on approximately 4 miles north of Brownfield on U.S. Highway 62/82, resulting in the death of a Brownfield man.

According to the preliminary investigation, Rolan Tomlison, 45, of Brownfield, was driving a dark grey 2017 GMC pickup and was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision by Justice of the Peace Judge Angie Garza. Information regarding seatbelt use for Tomlison was not available at the time of the report.

The other vehicle involved is a 2016 Freightliner truck-tractor pulling a semi-trailer, driven by Tommy Hanes, 74, of Lubbock. Hanes was not injured in the crash and was confirmed to have been wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators report that the Freightliner was traveling southwest on U.S. 62/82 when the driver entered a crossover in an attempt to turn around and head back northeast. During that maneuver, the truck stalled and came to rest across both northeast-bound lanes of traffic. As Tomlison traveled northeast on U.S. 62/82, his vehicle collided with the front right portion of the semi-trailer and the right rear of the truck-tractor. The impact caused Tomlison’s vehicle to become wedged underneath the semi-trailer.

Traffic along U.S. 62 was impacted for several hours as authorities conducted the investigation and worked to clear the roadway. The crash remains under investigation, and no additional details were available at the time of this release.

The Terry County Sheriff’s Office, BRMC EMS, Brownfield Fire & Rescue, Meadow Fire Dept., TX DPS, and TXDOT responded to the accident.
