Yoakum County fireworks show still on schedule

by admin

As of press time this week the annual 4th of July fireworks along with the annual 3 Person Golf Scramble is still on schedule.

The sad news is that for the first time in years there will be no activities set for the Stuffy Moorhead City Park on the 4th of July due to the many restrictions resulting from COVID-19.

There are still some spots open for the golf scramble, but time is running out.

Golf Pro Brett Boynton recently announced the golf tournament will happen on schedule. The entry fee is $225 per team. That fee includes a noon luncheon. Tee time is set for 9am.

In addition to prizes for each flight, five lucky golfers will receive $100 each for closest to the hole on the par 3 holes.

And one more incentive for the golfers is a $10 fee for two members of each team for one “Mulligan”. A mulligan is a second shot given to a golfer as a substitute for a poorly played shot, for which the golfer is not charged an additional stroke. One mulligan for the two players is allowed for the 18 holes.

You many contact Boynton at 592-2947 to enter your team or for further information on the event. The field is quickly filling up for the tournament so be sure to get your entry in as soon as possible.

Also, on the schedule for the 4th will be the annual fireworks display which will be held at the Yoakum County Park. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marilyn McCurley noted she is still waiting on word from County officials for rules for sitting on the grassy area at the park. However, she noted you may park your car along the highway and view the fireworks from your vehicle.

The fireworks display is scheduled to start at 9:45 or as soon as it becomes dark.

Make plans to participate in the golf tournament or attend the fireworks display. Fire Chief Cody Freeman and his family will once again be in charge of the fireworks display.

For additional information on any of the activities contact the Denver City Chamber of Commerce at 592-5424.
