Making a Difference

Paul is probably the most prolific writer in the Bible. He took his calling from God so seriously, as should we all. He was driven to be sure that everyone within his boundaries knew about Jesus Christ, and he also wanted God to continue to expand his boundaries so that he could always reach more.

In his first letter to the church at Thessalonica, He wrote “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ. Do not quench the spirit. Examine everything carefully and hold fast to that which is true.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-21) It occurred to me as I was reading this, that this is definitely very worth reading and making a part of our lives for this time in which we are living.

Rejoice always – What on earth do we have to rejoice about? Many have lost jobs, others are sick, our schools are closed. And we are supposed to rejoice? Yes! Rejoice in the fact that God knows how this story turns out and He is working His plan even now. He will provide for those who trust Him. We rejoice in the fact that in this very changing world, our Lord and Savior never changes!

Pray without ceasing – For what or whom are you praying? This is a good time to examine your pray life. Are you praying for the world around you? Are you confessing your sins? Are you being mindful of the blessings even in the midst of confusion? Pray daily.

In everything give thanks – This is another tough one. But there is always something for which to be thankful. Did you wake up this morning? Do you still have your family around you? Did Jesus still die for your sins even though we were so unworthy? Be thankful!

Do not quench the spirit – To me this means do not lose hope. Continue to hope in the Lord that good things are coming down the road. I have heard some reporters saying that perhaps those in leadership are offering false hope. Don’t fall into that! Where there is hope, there is a future. Do not ever quench anyone’s hopes for a future and for a change in our current situation!

Examine everything carefully – Oh this one is hard. In this day of social media where anyone and everyone can say anything they want, people fall for so many untruths. Obviously, always look to the Father for His eternal truths, but for things having to do with our current situation, look to reliable sources for your information. Don’t just fall for anything simply because your read it. Look for truth in all things. All things.

Rejoice. Pray. Give thanks. Hold onto hope. Look carefully for truth. Practicing these five things daily can make a difference in your life and the lives of those around you.

Practice them! It will truly make a difference!
