The Lady Cubs wrapped up district play Monday night with a big win over the #3 team in the state Idalou. This win comes after knocking off #8 Shallowater last week. The Lady Cubs dropped out of the state ranking after a tough loss to Littlefield but these last two wins will definitely turn some eyes towards these young and talented Lady Cubs.
It was a packed house at the pit at BHS even with the game was moved to Monday night due to weather concerns. The Lady Cubs came out matching the Lady Cats shot for shot in the first two quarters. Neither team could extend a lead as both defenses played tough. The Lady Cubs found most of thier success early by working the ball down low to Deja and Tia Johnson as they combined for 14 of the Lady Cubs 22 points in the first half. It was in the second quarter that guards Dabria Blackwell and Ashley Ramirez were able to hit two three pointers to tie up the game. In the final possession of the half Dabria Blackwell drove to the basket and made a great assist to Deja Johnson to give the Lady Cubs a 22-20 lead at the buzzer.
The third quarter was all Lady Cubs as they came out on fire scoring 19 points almost matching their entire first half total. Dabria Blackwell hit 2 three point shots and 1 free throw while Lindsey Herrera and Tia Johnson had 4 points each to give the Lady Cubs their first big lead of the game.
The Lady Cubs were able to hold off one more run from the Lady Cats and shot 4 of 6 from the free throw line in the final quarter to seal the victory 53-46. The Lady Cubs had three girls in double figures with Tia Johnson finishing the game with 13 points and 6 rebounds and Deja Johnson with 12 points and 2 rebounds. Dabria Blackwell had 12 points and 2 rebounds. Lindsey Herrera had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Gabi Fields had 5 points. Ashley Ramirez had 3 points, and Morgan Silva had 2 points and 4 rebounds.
The Lady Cubs finished third in district play with a 11-3 record and 27-5 overall. The Lady Cubs will next play Canadian in the first round of the playoffs. Stay tuned to TownTalk Radio facebook page for game updates.
