TownTalk Radio would like to welcome Gina Caswell Kelly to the TownTalk staff. Gina is familiar to most everyone in the area, having been born in Brownfield and lived here most of her life.
Gina graduated from Union High School, back in the days when Wellman and Union were two schools and were bitter rivals. She married Mike Kelly and raised two children, Kristy Garcia who lives in Brownfield, and Kyle Kelly, who lives in Lubbock.
Gina is a proud Texas Tech graduate and has a degree in Social Welfare, with a minor in the Study of Addiction and Addictive Disorders. Gina worked as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor and At-Risk Counselor for Brownfield ISD for many years. During this time, Gina also was Director of Parent Education and was a contributing writer for the Texas Association of School Boards Parenting Curriculum.
For over 20 years, Gina has written “Making a Difference,” a devotional type column that appeared in the Brownfield News and other area papers. Her column will now be a regular weekly feature on the TownTalk website.
Gina has done many things throughout the years. Most recently, she was a Reporter for the Brownfield News but felt God calling her to a change in her career. TownTalk seemed like the perfect fit in God’s plan.
Gina brings much to the table as a Director of News and Community Affairs for TownTalk. She has been very capably covering all activities across Terry County for many years. Her passion and heart make her more than just a reporter. She loves Terry County and its people and she writes with the knowledge and the heart of the people.
The number one guiding force in Gina’s life is her relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She has a deep desire that everyone would come to know Him. She does not shy away from mentioning His blessings in her writings.
She comes from an Ag background. Her husband was a farmer for many years, until his tragic death in 2000. At that time, Gina took over the farming operation, so when she writes about agriculture, she knows what she is talking about. Gina was recently awarded the Texas Farm Bureau Excellence in Journalism Award. One of only three handed out in the state.
Gina currently lives on the farm west of Brownfield and enjoys the solitude of life in the country. She has seven grandchildren and a 93 year-old mother, so she is somewhat the middle man between the generations and spends much of her time running grandkids here and there and caring for her mother.
We are blessed to welcome Gina to our staff.
