Brownfield, Texas (December 23,2024)- Come and Get it! The 2025 South Plains Underground Water Conservation District calendars are available and ready to be picked up.
Each year as part of the Southern Ogallala Conservation and Outreach Program (SOCOP), the South Plains UWCD conducts a calendar artwork contest open to all Terry County fourth and fifth graders. Students from Brownfield, Meadow, and Wellman-Union were all able to participate in the contest with exceptional entries from all campuses. Winners were recognized at the end of the school year in May 2024 and received their winning prize money as well as a certificate of achievement. The calendar features original student artwork promoting the importance of conserving water.

Lylah Castillo of Meadow’s Burleson Elementary, a 5th grader in Spring 2024, designed the 2025 cover entitled “To Keep the Drink You Have to Rethink”. This year’s cover artwork is especially appropriate as SPUWCD works diligently to inform community members about the importance of our water resources and help them to “rethink” their water usage. Additionally, twelve other winners, representing all three Terry County school districts, were awarded, and are featured on the monthly pages of the calendar.
