Brownfield Cubs Continue to Battle Adversity, Turn Attention to Crucial District Showdown at Denver City
Brownfield Cubs Fall to State-Ranked Dalhart 48-6, Look Ahead to Crucial District Showdown at Denver City
The Brownfield Cubs faced a difficult challenge Friday night, falling 48-6 to the state-ranked Dalhart Golden Wolves in their District 1-3A Division I opener. Despite the lopsided score, head coach Lawrence Johnson praised his team’s determination and refusal to quit against a physical Dalhart squad.
The Cubs’ lone touchdown came on an explosive 83-yard run by Ben Estrada, one of Brownfield’s biggest offensive highlights.
“We battled a very physical, state-ranked Dalhart team and didn’t give up!” Johnson said. “I praised our team for standing in the ring after all the adversity we’ve faced this year and told them the reward is coming. We need to continue to believe in WE!”
With the loss behind them, the Cubs travel to Denver City on Friday night for another important district matchup, where Brownfield hopes to improve its playoff-race position.

Recap: Cubs Show Fight Against State-Ranked Dalhart
The Cubs knew they would face a tremendous challenge against a Dalhart team known for its physical style of football. Despite the adversity Brownfield has faced this season, Johnson was encouraged by his players’ willingness to keep competing.
“We battled a very physical, state-ranked Dalhart team and didn’t give up!” Johnson said. “I praised our team for standing in the ring after all the adversity we’ve faced this year and told them the reward is coming. We need to continue to believe in WE!”
Offensively, the Cubs recorded 133 total yards, including 83 rushing yards and 50 passing yards.
Ben Estrada delivered the game’s biggest offensive highlight, breaking loose for an 83-yard touchdown run. Estrada finished with 83 rushing yards on one carry, Brownfield’s lone rushing touchdown. He also completed both passing attempts for 15 yards and caught one pass for three yards.
Quarterback Braedyn Davis completed five of 16 passes for 35 yards and threw two interceptions. Davis also carried the ball three times, finishing with minus-25 rushing yards.
Braydon Luther contributed in multiple ways for the Cubs, leading the receiving corps with four receptions for 23 yards, including a team-long 18-yard catch. Luther also added 10 rushing yards on four carries.
Other offensive contributors included Zac Soto, who carried the ball 10 times for 15 yards; Devin Franco, who caught one pass for 12 yards; and Jaythan Stell, who also caught a 12-yard pass.
While the offense was limited against Dalhart’s physical defense, the Cubs kept fighting, something Johnson has emphasized all season.
The Brownfield coach believes the team’s perseverance through injuries, adversity, and difficult competition will eventually pay dividends. His message has remained consistent: the Cubs must keep trusting one another, playing together, and believing in the program.
Preview: Brownfield Travels to Denver City With Playoff Implications
The Cubs will now turn their attention to another important District 1-3A Division I matchup as they travel to face the Denver City Mustangs on Friday night.
For Brownfield, the contest offers a chance to move up in district play and strengthen its playoff position.
“Our Cubs are looking forward to the new challenge as we travel to Denver City for a potential playoff position,” Johnson said.
The matchup carries plenty of significance for both programs as district competition begins to take shape. With playoff positioning on the line, each district game matters more.
For Brownfield, establishing offensive consistency will be a major priority. The Cubs will look to build on Estrada’s explosive-play potential while finding ways to sustain drives and limit turnovers.
Protecting the football will be particularly important after Brownfield threw two interceptions against Dalhart. A more consistent rushing attack and more opportunities for the passing game to move the chains could help the Cubs put together more productive offensive possessions.
Defensively, Brownfield will need another determined effort as it prepares for a Denver City program that has traditionally emphasized physical football.
However, beyond the statistics and adjustments, Johnson continues to stress the importance of unity and perseverance.
His message of believing in “WE” reflects a commitment to playing for one another, staying positive, and refusing to let difficult circumstances define the season.
The Cubs have faced their share of challenges, but Johnson believes the lessons learned through adversity can help prepare his team for the opportunities still ahead.
For Brownfield, Friday night’s trip to Denver City is about more than another football game. Itis a chance to turn perseverance into progress and keep its postseason hopes alive.
The Cubs will look to bring that determination to the field Friday night as they battle the Mustangs in another important district contest.
DISTRICT 1-3A DI CURRENT RECORDS

Meadow Broncos Roll Past Southland 66-20, Prepare for District Showdown Against Loop
The Meadow Broncos bounced back Friday night, delivering a dominant 66-20 win over the Southland Eagles in their district opener. After a disappointing loss the previous week, the Broncos responded with an explosive offense and a determined defense to get back on the winning track.
The victory marked the fourth time this season that Meadow has won a game by 24 points or more, demonstrating the Broncos’ ability to put points on the scoreboard and take control of games.
With momentum on their side, the Broncos now turn their attention to another important district matchup as they prepare to take on the Loop Longhorns this Friday night.

Game Recap: Broncos Dominate Southland 66-20
Meadow wasted little time putting its offensive weapons to work against Southland, producing an impressive 66-point performance behind several standout individual efforts.
Leading the charge was Brayson Parker, who put together another outstanding all-around performance for the Broncos.
Parker carried the football 16 times for 226 rushing yards and four touchdowns, averaging more than 14 yards per carry. His ability to break through the defense and create explosive plays was a major factor in Meadow’s offensive success.
Parker also contributed through the air, completing four of five passes for 82 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, he added five tackles, showcasing his versatility on both sides of the football.
Isaac Estrada also delivered a strong performance, rushing three times for 34 yards and two touchdowns. Estrada added one reception for three yards and another touchdown, giving him three total touchdowns in the contest. On defense, he recorded six tackles.
EJ Piedra continued to establish himself as a dangerous receiving threat, hauling in two receptions for 65 yards and two touchdowns. Piedra also contributed five tackles on defense.
The production from Parker, Estrada, and Piedra highlighted Meadow’s balanced offensive attack and its ability to score through both the running and passing games.
The Broncos’ 66-point outburst was particularly encouraging after the previous week’s setback. Rather than allowing the loss to affect their confidence, Meadow responded with an impressive performance when district competition began.
Defensively, the Broncos held Southland to 20 points while receiving contributions from several players who also played significant roles on offense.
The victory provided Meadow with a strong start to district play and an opportunity to build momentum heading into the remainder of its schedule.
Game Preview: Meadow Travels to Loop for Important District Contest
The Broncos will look to keep their winning momentum rolling Friday night when they travel to face the Loop Longhorns in another district matchup.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
The contest features two programs with a limited but interesting history against one another. According to the provided series history, Meadow and Loop have met just eight times, with the Broncos holding a commanding 7-1 advantage in the all-time series.
While the historical advantage favors Meadow, the Broncos understand that previous results will have little bearing on what happens when the two teams take the field Friday night.
For Meadow, the key will be continuing the offensive execution that helped produce 66 points against Southland.
Parker’s dual-threat ability gives the Broncos multiple options offensively. His ability to run for big gains while also making plays through the passing game forces opposing defenses to account for several different threats.
Estrada’s effectiveness near the goal line and Piedra’s ability to stretch the field provide additional weapons that could prove valuable against Loop.
Defensively, Meadow will look to build on its effort against Southland and continue developing consistency as district competition intensifies.
With playoff positioning becoming increasingly important, every district victory carries significance.
For the Broncos, the focus will be on maintaining their momentum, executing offensively, limiting mistakes, and continuing to improve each week.
Broncos Looking to Make a Statement in District Play
The Broncos have demonstrated throughout the season that they possess an explosive offense capable of putting up big numbers.
Four victories by at least 24 points illustrate Meadow’s scoring potential, but the challenge moving forward will be maintaining that level of execution against district opponents.
Friday’s matchup against Loop provides another opportunity for Meadow to build confidence, strengthen its district standing, and take another step toward its postseason goals.
After bouncing back from adversity with a convincing 66-20 victory over Southland, the Broncos will look to carry that same energy into Loop on Friday night.
Kickoff between the Meadow Broncos and Loop Longhorns is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday.

Gabe added six receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
The offensive production helped the Wildcats reach the 60-point mark for the first time this season, demonstrating their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Defense Delivers Another Strong Performance

AJ recorded four tackles and a pass breakup, while Fabian contributed three tackles.
Noah and Braxton combined for two tackles, and Cesar and Brock combined for another two tackles. Ayeden also recorded two tackles, while Kross finished with one.
Braxton made another significant defensive contribution, recording two pass breakups and an interception. His ability to disrupt Dawson’s passing attack provided the Wildcats with an additional defensive advantage.
The defensive performance was another encouraging sign for a Wellman-Union squad that has continued to develop throughout the season.
With the victory, the Wildcats have now recorded three wins by more than 23 points this season, showing their ability to control games when all phases are working together.
Game Preview: Wildcats Travel to Southland for Important District Contest
The Wildcats will look to continue their winning ways Friday night when they travel to face the Southland Eagles.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Wellman-Union enters the contest with a 4-3 overall record and a 1-0 district mark following its convincing victory over Dawson.
Southland, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back after suffering a 66-20 loss to the Meadow Broncos in its district opener.
For the Wildcats, Friday’s matchup provides an opportunity to remain undefeated in district competition and take another step toward their season goals.
Offensively, Wellman-Union will look to continue building on the success it experienced against Dawson. The Wildcats demonstrated the ability to move the football both on the ground and through the air, creating several scoring opportunities.
Gabe’s ability to contribute as both a runner and passer will be important as the Wildcats prepare for Southland’s defense.
The receiving contributions from Braxton and Fabian give Wellman-Union additional offensive weapons, while the Wildcats will look to continue creating big plays and converting scoring opportunities.
Defensively, Wellman-Union will need another disciplined performance against a Southland team that will be eager to get back on track.
The Wildcats will look to limit explosive plays, force turnovers, and maintain the defensive intensity that helped hold Dawson to just six points.
Wildcats Focused on the Bigger Picture
With district play officially underway, Wellman-Union has positioned itself for an important stretch of the season.
After beginning the year with a mixture of victories and setbacks, the Wildcats have climbed above .500 and appear to be finding their rhythm at the right time.
However, Coach LaBadie remains focused on a simple approach: take care of business one game at a time.
The Wildcats entered district competition with aspirations of competing for a district championship and securing a playoff berth, and their opening performance against Dawson provided a strong first step toward those goals.
The message for Wellman-Union is simple: stay focused, stay determined, and continue improving.
Friday night’s trip to Southland presents the next opportunity for the Wildcats to demonstrate their progress and build on their district-opening victory.
The Wellman-Union Wildcats and Southland Eagles are scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. Friday.
