The Texas high school football season is now halfway through for some teams. It’s clear to see which teams are standing out among the rest. The Brownfield Cubs have their homecoming game this Friday night and are eager to secure their first win of the season. As it’s week six, the six-team districts typically take their bye week right before district play begins. Therefore, I have 45 games scheduled this week instead of the usual 90. I went 74 of 90 last week.
Here are some games of interest in week 5:
#1 Aledo (5-0) @ #4 Denton Ryan (4-0): This is the biggest game of the week, if not the season. This game is not just a top-5 matchup; it is basically the district championship for District 3-5A DI. I have Aledo.
#2 Wall (5-0) @ Idalou (3-2): After last week’s routing of Shally, Idalou has some major confidence as they host #2 Wall. Depending on the outcome of the district game on Halloween night between Idalou and Slaton, Wall and the Wildcats could meet in the regional finals. I’m going with Wall.
Coahoma (5-0) @ Littlefield (5-0): Not sure anyone thought the Bulldogs woudl be 5-0 on the season, but they are and they playing lights out right now. Although they upended two top-10 2A teams, Albany & Wink, this is most likely thier biggest test this season, until they take on Wall in district action. I’m taking Coahoma by 4.
Borden Co. (4-1) @ Sands (3-2): This probably the best six man football game of the week. Don’t let those two losses that Sands has fool you. Those were to Hermleigh and Robert Lee, both in the top 10 in Class 1A DI. However, the Coyotes have more depth and that will make the difference.
