Brownfield band members Braden Conn-Bass, Aubree Valenzuela-Trumpet, and Ryan Gamez-Trombone performed with the Association lof Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) Region 16 Jazz Bands on Saturday, January 21st. The performances were held in the Helen Devitt Jones Theatre for the Performing Arts on the campus of South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.
The students spent the weekend working with renowned jazz educators leading to the Saturday performance. Brownfield Director of Bands, Will Burks said, “this was a great opportunity for students to experience performing truly American music from the jazz idiom.” According to Burks, the experience these students had is made possible because of the efforts of the Association of Texas Small School Bands and their efforts to increase the exposure to all areas of music performance to members of small school band programs across the state.
These three students along with six others from Brownfield High School will perform with the ATSSB All-Region Concert Bands on January 27th and 28th at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
