Lady Cubs Carry Momentum Into District Play After Win Over Talkington
The Brownfield Lady Cubs head into district play after a four-set win over Talkington last Tuesday and a challenging road match at Idalou on Saturday.
Brownfield’s coach Angelica Garibaldi (Coach G) said the Lady Cubs competed well against Talkington and continued to show growth throughout the match. At Idalou, injuries kept several starters out of the lineup, forcing two players into unfamiliar positions. The coach praised how they embraced the challenge, adjusted, and kept competing against a strong opponent.
Brownfield opens district play tonight, Tuesday, September 22, at #9 Odessa Compass. The coach said the team has been focused on communicating, limiting unforced errors, and playing together from the first point to the last.
The Lady Cubs return home Saturday, September 26, to face Lamesa. The teams met in a tournament a few weeks ago, when Brownfield won a competitive four-set match by two points in the final set.
“We know Saturday will be another battle, so we would love to have everyone come out, pack the stands, and support our girls,” Coach G said. “This is a big week for our program, and we are ready to play!”

Lady Cats Push New Home to Five Sets, Turn Attention to District Play
The Wellman-Union Lady Cats took New Home to five sets last Tuesday but fell 3-2 in their final match before district play.
After losing the opening set 25-9, the Lady Cats rallied to win the next two, 26-24 and 25-13. New Home forced a fifth set with a 25-14 win, then edged Wellman-Union 16-14 in the decisive set. The loss puts the Lady Cats at 10-8.
“We hosted New Home last Tuesday in a hard-fought match that went all five sets,” Coach Mandy Carter said. “Although we came up short, I was proud of the way our girls competed and stayed in the fight. New Home pushed us, and that level of competition was exactly what we needed heading into district play.”
Wellman-Union opens district play on the road against Wilson at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 22. Matches against Southland and Loop follow.
“The girls have worked hard to prepare for this stretch, and they’re ready to tackle the district schedule,” the coach said. “We know every match will demand our best, but we’re excited for the challenge and looking forward to competing for a district title this year.”
