Brownfield battled Big Spring before putting together a strong run at the Denver City Tournament, where the Lady Cubs earned the Consolation Championship with wins over Southcrest, Friona, and district opponent Lamesa. Meanwhile, the Lady Cats turned in a complete team performance in a three-set victory over Smyer, led by Aliyah DePoyster’s six kills and Jerzee Harlan’s 10 aces. Both teams appear to be finding their rhythm as they continue building confidence and momentum heading into the next stretch of the season.
Lady Cubs Continue to Find Their Groove, Claim Consolation Championship
The Brownfield Lady Cubs are finding their rhythm as the season moves forward, putting together several strong performances and bringing home hardware from the Denver City Tournament.
On Tuesday, August 25, the Lady Cubs hosted Big Spring in Brownfield. Although the Lady Cubs came up short, the match showed plenty of positives as Brownfield competed throughout and battled a tough opponent.
The Lady Cubs followed that performance with a successful trip to the Denver City Tournament, where they captured the Consolation Championship.
Brownfield picked up wins over Southcrest, Friona, and Lamesa during the tournament. The victory over Lamesa was especially important, with the Lady Cubs battling through three sets against a team they will see again during district competition.
Those victories gave Brownfield three big wins and another confidence boost as the team continues to build chemistry on the court.
The Lady Cubs are settling into their roles and playing more consistently as a group. Their recent performances have shown continued improvement, and the Denver City Tournament gave the team another chance to build momentum heading into the next portion of the schedule.
Brownfield will return to the road Tuesday when the Lady Cubs travel to take on All Saints. They return to the road Saturday for a trip to Plains.
With three recent victories under their belts and the team continuing to improve, the Lady Cubs will look to keep the momentum rolling.
Lady Cats Sweep Smyer Behind Strong Team Performance
The Lady Cats put together one of their most complete performances of the season last week, earning a three-set victory over Smyer behind strong play on both offense and defense.
Aliyah DePoyster led the Lady Cats offensively with six kills, giving the team a consistent attacking presence throughout the match. From the service line, Jerzee Harlan created problems for Smyer all night, finishing with an impressive 10 aces.
Passing and serve receive were also major strengths for the Lady Cats. Their ability to control the first contact kept the offense in system and created more scoring opportunities. Strong communication and court coverage helped the Lady Cats maintain control and build momentum from set to set.
The home crowd also fueled the energy around the match. With plenty of support coming from the stands, the Lady Cats fed off the atmosphere and carried that excitement onto the court.
