Brownfield Lady Cubs & Runnin’ Cubs
The Brownfield Lady Cubs basketball team is now 3-7 after back-to-back losses to state-ranked #10 New Home 50-34 and Tahoka 39-37, both on the road. Although 3-7, the Lady Cubs have a lot to look to. Remember, most of their losses have been to some great and ranked teams. If the Lady Cubs are going to lose some games, it’s better to do it now and not in district. The Lady Cubs faceoff with 4A Andrews tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, at home with a 6:00 tipoff. Andrews is similar to Brownfield with a 2-7 record and also playing some tough teams. The Lady Cubs will finish out the week at home in the Brownfield Hoopin’ Cubs Classic. On Thursday, Dec. 7 at 12-noon, they take on #13 Idalou and at 7:30 p.m. they’ll take on Coahoma. On Friday they’ll take on Sunray at 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday they’ll finish up playing Abernathy at 3:00 p.m.

The Runnin’ Cubs are now 6-4 on the season. Three of those four losses came during the Gene Messer Classic this past weekend. The Cubs took on 6A Rockwall-Heath where they lost 69-45. Next, they played 6A Midland High and won 53-43. They went 1-1 in pool play, then they got #5 4A Canyon Randall in their first tournament game, losing 82-37. Then their final game in the Gene Messer Classic was against #4 5A Hobbs NM, losing 60-49. Those three losses were to some very tough teams. The Runnin’ Cubs will get some much-needed rest tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 5 as they do not have a game. They will finish up the week at the Brownfield Hoopin’ Cub Classic. Brownfield will begin Thursday at 6:00 p.m. to take on Coahoma. On Friday at 10:30 a.m., they’ll take on a pesky and tough Lorenzo squad, and then at 7:30 p.m. the Runnin’ Cubs will faceoff with #13 4A Lubbock Estacado. On Saturday at 4:30 p.m., they’ll take on Lubbock Monterey JV. The Runnin’ Cubs have been playing some larger, tougher, and ranked teams. The good thing about this has been how they’ve kept up in these few losses. This will only help them when district action rolls around.
Meadow Lady Broncos & Broncos
The Meadow Lady Broncos have seen some success recently winning back-to-back games, over cross-county rival Wellman-Union 64-31 and Lubbock Titans 67-15. Now tonight Tuesday, Dec. 5, they look to improve to 6-4 when they face off with Springlake-Earth. The Lady Broncos do have a few girls who can score. K’Lynn Tarin recently dropped 26 points. Look for them tonight to not slow down. The Lady Broncos will finish the week at the Meadow Ballin’ Battle Classic. They will begin on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Dawson, and then on Friday they get two games, first against Kress at 3:00 p.m., then Southland at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, they will take on their cross-county rivals Wellman-Union at 1:30 p.m. The Lady Broncos should improve to 10-4 after tonight’s game and the four they have during the tournament. This will give them some confidence leading into district action when they take on #5 Whiteface at home.

The Broncos are looking for some more wins since they are 3-4 on the season so far. They’ve had two close back-to-back wins, against cross-county rival Wellman-Union 44-40 and Lazbuddie 38-36. Also, Meadow starts with three sophomores and two freshmen, so they are young and rebuilding, to say the least. Tonight around 7:30 p.m., the Broncos will have a very tough test against Springlake-Earth. The Wolverines come in 4-1, with their one loss coming from a 2A Plains 64-48. Springlake has several upperclassmen who will have more experience. Like the Lady Broncos, the boys will finish the week at the Meadow Ballin’ Battle Classic. Friday they will begin with a 6:00 p.m. tipoff against Dawson. Then on Friday at 4:30 pm they will face off with Kress. Friday at 7:30 p.m. they will take on Southland, and on Saturday at noon, they play cross-county rival Wellman-Union. The Broncos have a good chance to come out of the tournament with a winning record.
Wellman-Union Lady Cats & Wildcats
The Wellman-Union Lady Cats are now 3-5 on the season and it doesn’t get any easier for them as they take on Crosbyton tonight Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 6:00 p.m. Crosbyton comes in with a 5-2 record with a win over Meadow and two close loses to state-ranked Guthrie. Again, the Lady Cats are a young team with sophomores and freshmen starting. The Lady Cats will wrap up their week of basketball at the Meadow Ballin’ Battle Classic. On Thursday at 10:30 a.m. they’ll play Southland. On Friday, at 9:00 a.m. they face off with Kress and at noon, they take on Dawson. They finish the tourney against cross-county rival Meadow at 1:30 p.m.

The Wildcats of Wellman-Union are now 0-8 on the season. Although with no wins, they have had some very close losses. The Wildcats will get there, they have a new coach, and it’s a young team. Like the girls, the task does not get easier as they take on Crosbyton tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 am. The Chiefs have wins over Meadow 45-15 and Rotan 60-23. So tonight will be tough. Like the girls, the Wildcats also finish their week of basketball over at Meadow. On Thursday at 9:00 a.m., they take on Southland. On Friday the Wildcats get two games, against Kress at 10:30 a.m. and Dawson at 1:30 p.m. They finish the tourney against cross-county rival Meadow at noon on Saturday. The Wildcats will be able to come out of the tourney with some wins.
