Team Red White & Blue come through Brownfield

by Eric

On Thursday, May 8th, many people likely noticed the blaring sirens and the unusually slow traffic during the lunch hour. This was due to a remarkable journey led by an organization called Team RWB as they passed through Brownfield. But who are they? Team RWB is a vibrant community made up of veterans, service members, military families, and supporters, all connected by a deep commitment to teamwork, shared values, and a common mission.

Around 12:05 PM, TownTalk received a tip that a crew was making its way east on US 380, just west of Brownfield. One runner was proudly carrying a U.S. flag, followed closely by a small motorhome and a pilot vehicle. Eager to learn more, TownTalk ventured out to meet them. We spoke with one of the runners, Josh Kraus, who had just completed his leg of the relay. We asked about their purpose.

Kraus passionately explained, “We are a group of veterans carrying the United States flag across the country to raise $1 million and increase awareness for veteran health and wellness. This journey is called the Old Glory Relay.” He elaborated that they are part of Team Blue, a dedicated group of four military veterans who run five miles or for 75 minutes at a time before switching off. Team Blue includes Josh Kraus, a Navy veteran, Jeremy Adams, an Army veteran, Zach Polega, an Army veteran, and Bill Savage, also an Army veteran.

On May 2nd, twelve brave military veterans set out on an extraordinary mission to break a world record by carrying a single American flag across the nation in a transcontinental relay. Their route takes them from San Diego, CA, to Washington, DC, all within an ambitious timeframe of just 15 days. This remarkable relay will push the limits of human endurance as they navigate diverse terrains and face all weather conditions, day and night. Remarkably, the flag never stops moving—symbolizing the unwavering spirit of those it represents.
