Runnin’ Cubs take Kermit in Bi-District matchup

by Eric

The Brownfield Runnin’ Cubs will take on the Kermit Hornets in a Bi-District Championship game tomorrow evening in Andrews at 6:30 p.m. Unfortunately, Brownfield fell to Littlefield in a seeding match Friday night. The Runnin’ Cubs were plagued with turnovers, not rebounding very well, and going 3 for 12 at the charity stripe, those issues did not help. However, it becomes a new season in a sense. Yes, it’s one-and-done if you lose, hopefully, the Runnin’ Cubs got Littlefield out of their heads before tomorrow’s matchup.

Both teams look similar in scoring. The Hornets are averaging 53 points a game and Brownfield is averaging 59 points a game. Just a six-point difference. On defense, Kermit is allowing 50 points a game and the Runnin’ Cubs are allowing 49 points a game. Very close on both offense and defense. Brownfield is coming in as the 2nd seed out of District 3-3A and Kermit is coming in as the 3rd seed out of District 4-3A.

Both teams have opponents they have in common. Kermit played Slaton twice and Denver City once, and Brownfield played Slaton once and Denver City twice. The Hornet’s first game of their season was against Slaton where they won 53-51, however in December during a tournament, Slaton upended Kermit 53-44. In late December, mid-season, Kermit beat Denver City 48-38. Brownfield beat Slaton 67-51 and won both games against Denver City, at home 67-47 and at Denver City 41-36.

Brownfield will need to control the ball, and not turn it over. When they go to the line, they have got to make those shots. They also will need to win the rebounding game as well.
